As 2022 draws to a close, we take a look back at the year and some of the memorable moments for Advanced Materials that have benefitted not just the business and the team but importantly our customers too.
As customer enquiries continued to flow in, we remained committed to being a silicone rubber manufacturer that can be relied on, one that can meet our customers’ silicone manufacturing needs and produce high quality components every time.
In order to remain at the forefront of silicone rubber manufacturing and meet our customers’ expectations, we made a series of investments in the facilities and equipment at our factory in West Sussex. These included:
- A new LED optical measurement system
- A new tool room
- New storage for raw materials
- Expansion to production capacity
- New metrology equipment

Investing in protecting the environment
In addition to making investments that enable us to adapt to design and manufacturing changes as and when required, we were also able to demonstrate our company commitment to inclusivity and the wellbeing of the environment.
In the summer we were awarded the ISO14001 accreditation, to add to our existing ISO9001 Quality Management System accreditation. This environmental management system puts us on the path to becoming officially environmentally friendly.
To achieve this we had to be able to demonstrate how our business ensures that any environmental impact is measured and improved. Achieving the standard is an acknowledgement of the commitment to environmentally-friendly practices our team follows, such as recycling and the reduction of energy consumption.
Our team
Three of our team members were promoted from the role of Silicone Specialist to Senior Silicone Specialist. This new role acknowledged the level of commitment and expertise of our team and added extra responsibilities to the role, such as production planning, quality monitoring and order progressing. The progression of these roles is part of our commitment to the training and development of our excellent team and to the continuous improvement of the service we offer.
In June, the team celebrated International Women in Engineering Day by applauding the amazing female engineers we have here at Advanced Materials. In recognition of the tremendous contribution that women engineers make to UK engineering we highlighted the roles they play at all levels of our organisation.
More recently Managing Director, Gareth Coombes, successfully climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, despite raging wildfires in the region. He raised almost £700 for Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice, with £280 raised from Advanced Materials staff alone. You can show your support for his awesome endeavour on his Just Giving page.
Technological advancements and innovations
We are very much looking forward to the year ahead and all of the pending technological advancements, innovations and silicone manufacturing events that will take place.
We will be exhibiting at Silicone Expo Europe in March, a trade-show and conference specifically designed for the silicone industry, which offers us and our customers an excellent networking opportunity within the silicone supply chain.
